Replacing Interior Door Frame
Stand the replacement door and doorjamb unit inside the opening.
Replacing interior door frame. If the doorknob is on the left you need a left handed door. Select a pre hung door with the same dimensions as your old door. Some blank doors have a specific swing direction.
If the knob is to the right select a right handed door. Check the rough opening. Carefully set it in the opening and use a level to ensure the hinge side is plumb.
Place the old door beside the new door and with the hinge sides abutted use clamps to hold the two doors together. The steps below describe installation of a blank door. Measure the height of the opening and then measure the width at both the top and the bottom.
The strike side the side with the lockset of these doors has a beveled edge so the door can swing freely. Tap one of the cedar shims that you removed earlier. Open the door and shim the bottom edge of the open door to keep the frame tight against the stops on the other side.
Removing an interior door frame. Make sure your door is going to fit into the opening. It will also create space and make it easier to work 1 x research sourcestep 2 tap out the hinge pins with a screwdriver.
Place a level on both sides to help get it vertically straight in the opening. Starting the process with the door closed will hold it in place and prevent it from falling over when you unscrew the hinges. The hinge pins are the metal bars that run inside of your hinge.
